Organisers of the Dwarka Ramlila in Delhi say a 221-foot Ravana effigy will be burnt on Dussehra, and that it will be set alight by remote control rather than by hand. In Patna, the Gandhi Maidan event will feature a 90-foot Ravana.

Dwarka’s giant effigy

According to a report by Asianet Newsable, the effigy at Dwarka is 221 feet tall, comparable to a 22-storey building. Dwarka Sri Ramleela Society chairman Akash Rajesh Gehlot said construction took around three months and involved about 120 artisans and workers, with roughly seven tonnes of iron used. The project cost about Rs 40 lakh, the report said.

A festival guide lists the Ramlila at Dwarka Sector 10, running from 11 October, with the effigy burnt on Dussehra. The exact burning time was not available at the time of writing.

All figures here come from the organisers. The same society had claimed a 211-foot effigy at the same location in 2024, according to All India Radio. We could not independently verify the heights.

Patna’s Gandhi Maidan

According to ANI, the Patna Dussehra Trust Committee will burn a 90-foot Ravana at Gandhi Maidan, 10 feet taller than last year’s 80-foot figure. The Meghnad effigy will be 85 feet and Kumbhakarna’s 80 feet. Organisers say eco-friendly fireworks will be used to reduce pollution.

For crowd safety, police personnel and magistrates will be deployed at all 14 gates of the ground, and CCTV cameras at the gates will be used to monitor crowds, ANI reported.
